Passive Voice

Passive Voice

The passive voice is a grammatical construction (a "voice") in which the subject of a sentence or clause denotes the recipient of the action (the patient) rather than the performer (the agent). In the English language, the English passive voice is formed with an auxiliary verb (usually be or get) plus a participle (usually the past participle) of a transitive verb.
Passive voice is a pattern in  whichthe subject receives the action pattern : 

  • Simple present tense : Subject + is/am/are + verb3
example : A funny story is told
  • Simple past tense : Subject + was/were +verb3
example : A funny story was told
  • Present continuous tense : Subject + is/am/are + being + verb3
example : A funny story is being told
  • Past continuous tense : Subject + was/were + being + verb3
example : A funny story was being told
  • Present perfect tense : Subject + has/have + been + verb3
example : A funny story has been told
  • Past perfect tense : Subject + had + been + verb3
example : A funny story had been told
  • Modal : Subject + modal + be + verb3
example : A funny story will be told
